Greetings!
This is a one-time post to the general BB regarding the upcoming SOG in Sturbridge, MA, this coming weekend - June 27-29. Clearly this will be our biggest and best SOG with over 70 people registered already, and a location that's hard to beat. We'll have models ranging from a 1957 93 up through the latest 9-5 Aero Wagon, and everything in between. Here's a bit of the scoop below. More details and a registration form can be found on our website at the link below. A full copy of our June newsletter can be found on the NESA bulletin board on saabnet. If you can't download the app, and want a printed copy, please email me at secretary@nesaab.org.
The New England Saab Owners Gathering in Sturbridge, Massachusetts
The SOG is fast approaching - the weekend of June 27-29 is just around the corner. By now, everyone on our mailing list should have received a registration brochure with all the info regarding this growing annual event. This year's event is in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and it's likely that attendance will far exceed the two previous SOGs given the central location and proximity to Boston. Also, it's not certain that the Sturbridge Host Hotel - our center of operations so to speak - will have rooms available for much longer. If you're planning on staying at the Hotel and haven't yet reserved a room - CALL NOW!! Take a look at http://www.sturbridgehosthotel.com - or simply call them at 1-508-347-7393. (I took the liberty of asking rates for rooms for that weekend as if I were not with NESA, and they were alarmingly higher - and that was without any meals or the support staff that the Hotel provides us. So - even if the rates seem steep, we're getting a heck of a deal here.)
The format will generally follow the first two SOGs, with attendees arriving Friday, a Concours Saturday morning, a driving tour that afternoon, and a banquet and presentation that evening.
Sturbridge has a wealth of area attractions for anyone who might not be living and breathing Saabs this weekend. It's great for families as well since Old Sturbridge Village is right around the corner. There's plenty of room for a multitude of Saabs and owners - old and new. And while the theme of the event will be recognizing turbo-charged Saabs, we're hoping to have an impressive vintage turn-out as well.
To see what the area offers, try http://www.sturbridge.org
Details on the hotel can be found at http://www.sturbridgehosthotel.com
To learn more about Old Sturbridge Village, try http://www.osv.org. We also have 10 adult admission passes to Old Sturbridge Village - good for 2 days - for $15 ($5 off regular price). If interested, please email Chris at secretary@nesaab.org. This is a wonderful way that family members can enjoy the day while the rest of us enjoy the cars.
Saturday's Concours will be at Old Sturbridge Village, just west of "the Tavern". Registered cars should ARRIVE BY 8:30am. Judging will be by popular vote, and will take place from 9-11am. Lunch will arrive around 11:30 (box lunches will only be available to hotel guests or registered attendees who paid in advance - there are plenty of options nearby, but there won't be extra box lunches on site)
Just about all of the info from the event brochure is now available on our website in pdf format. If you need a printed brochure, or never received one in the first place, give us a holler at secretary@nesaab.org, and we'll get one out to you. If you know anyone who's not on our mailing list who might be interested in a brochure or future info, send us his or her contact info. There is strength in numbers! If you don't think your form will make it back in time, please email us if you want any meals ASAP. If you need to make any last minute changes, please call the hotel and let them know or leave a message.
Directions: Sturbridge, Massachusetts, is located near the intersection of Interstate 84 and the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90). The Sturbridge Host Hotel is located on Route 20 West. From the North East & West, take the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90) to Exit 9, then first right after tolls onto Route 20 west. From the South, take either Interstate 84(Exit 3B) or Route 131 to Route 20 West. The hotel driveway is located on the right, less than one-quarter mile from the first set of traffic lights.
To get to Old Sturbridge Village for the Concours Saturday morning, stay on Route 20 west past the Hotel, staying in the right-hand lane, and turn right into the entrance for OSV. Follow the signs to the Tavern, and as you pull into the parking area, you should see us set up over on the far right in the large open space.
The SOG is the perfect venue for swapping parts. Dig into the corners of your garage and dust off some of those treasures from the past. Members have been generous enough in the past to contribute items for our raffle and auction. The SOG is one of the club's sole means of raising funds outside of memberships, so if you're feeling generous, please consider helping us out in this regard again. Thanks!!
