The manual transmission in the '02 and '03 9-5 is very good, and the clutch is just as sweet (low effort, engages close to the floor) as any Honda. The shifter itself has good feedback, and falls easily into gear when the rpms are matched up. Although it doesn't feel as "well oiled" as in a Honda, it goes into gear VERY easily all the time and never blocks first or reverse. Reverse gear is even synchronized!
I've never even come close to missing a shift or stalling the engine. The stick in my '02 9-5 beats the stick in the current BMW 3-series hands down.
But I'll agree with you that Honda makes the best stick shifts overall; I used to own a stick Civic, and I even got to drive an Acura NSX, and all I gotta say about the NSX is, WOW!!!!
Curiously, the stick on the RSX Type-S I drove wasn't very good. It often blocked third gear...
