Does anyone make a better turbo?

I've only had my 9-5 for a few months and I couldn't be happier with it (2003 lpt wagon). I primarily wanted a safe car (this is the family car, mostly for my wife, and not my drive-to-work car); many of the performance-minded posts here are only of academic interest to me.
But I admit the turbo is so much fun!!! I usually drive in "sport" mode now. WOW!!!
When I replace my commuting car (I cannot name it for fear of the laughter but let's say it's pretty uninspiring but reliable) I think I'll be looking for another turbo-charged engine, as long as it gives me the kind of performance (i.e. not a lot of lag) that I'm enjoying in the 9-5. I also (based on comments on TSN about the engine) expect a certain amount of reliability.
A supercharger seems contrary to what I like about the turbo (i.e. that it kinda goes away when I don't need it).
Does anyone think there's a better-made turbo engine? Or one as good?
(Don't say the Aero -- okay you can say it, but duh I know. Don't say anything by Porsche -- okay you can say it, but I'll never be able to afford it.)
Anyone here drop a turbo into a Civic Si and like it as much as your Saab? It sure would be a lot cheaper...
