I'm currently finishing up a Masters, and constantly find myself bored. Of course, doing research in fatigue probably has something to do with it!
Seriously though, it depends on the type of work that she plans on doing. I was fortunate in that I was able to step into an established project with previous work to build from. The learning curve was short, and I've been able to progress through it rather quickly. I've also had to take only 4 courses towards the degree requirements, and they weren't much more involved than undergrad courses.
Before she jumps into part time work, consider a few things:
1) are there opportunities to be a teaching assistant? These positions tend to pay better than part time work, and are more impressive on a resume.
2) how structured is the program? She might be better off forgetting about part time work and devoting that time towards school. She could (potentially) finish earlier and start work earlier, so the income gained due to the time period between her early finish and 'regular' finish would be greater than all of the PT work.
Oh, tuition increases...my how I love those! I guess I shouldn't complain since the amount of Canadian tuition passed on to the student is significantly less than that in the US. Have I mentioned our 15% sales tax in Ontario?
Cheers (and good luck to your daughter)
Mark
