I think that some of the oil consumption might be from sticking rings. You can get a can of Winn's or some other oil addative that will free up sticking rings and valves. But never use anything thick like STP that does not shake like water in the can. Do this a couple of weeks before the oil change. I have seen this reduce oil consumption before.
I would also suggest a known true synthetic to tackle ring deposits.. M1 0W40. Don't extend drains for a while as the synthetic may be releasing dyno deposits.
Do the oil pressure sending switches fail like in the NG900's? Checked for the light before cranking?
