And what the nature of the plastic that transfered to the table?
Paste wax is easily dissolved, easily reapplied, but you may have color variation nonetheless. Shellac is slowly dissolved in solvent if you're careful. If it's polyurathane you can get away w/ anything if you're gentle w/ it. I'd carefull scrape in a limited fashion the plastic residue w/ a plastic blade and use solvent only if truly neccessary. Depending on how 'fine' the furniture is/what your expectations are, could go number or routes. Am not a finishing 'expert'. Good luck w/ it. P.S. if high end piece may look into local restorer as well.
