I have a fairly decent sized compressor. It is an 80 gallon 7.5HP two stage unit that produces 18 CFM at 175 PSI. I use it very often. It is more compressor than I really needed.
I run just about every type of air tool off of it that you could imagine. I like it.
I started with a 5hp 30gal oil-less unit from sears. I did not like that. It was loud and just didn't have enough CFM to keep up with me.
I went to a 30 gal two cylinder single stage unit. Much quiter, but I eventually wore it out so it was time to upgrade again...
The 80 gal unit I have now is more than I need. In fact I have to change the compressor oil a little more frequently than I did with the smaller unit since it never really gets hot enough to get teh water vapor out of it.
I would advise getting a small two cylinder unit. The only problem is that once you have the compressor, there are lots of new tools you can waste your money on...
