That number is probably just extrapolated from some analysis comparing car buying trends in the $30-45K buying range. I doubt if there is any way to know when a Saab owner sells their Saab or trades it in, so how would they get that data?
It would be much more interesting to see if Saab knows what the other 76% of 'Saab leavers' bought, and why they didn't want to buy another Saab but got that Bimmer or Volvo or Acura instead. Then use that to improve the product.
Like someone else said, probably 50% were NG900 (and I'd say C900) owners with horror stories to tell. And I think that is right on target. Saab owners love their cars, but buy a different brand because the Saab was unreliable. I can't even count the number of people I've spoken to who say "I used to have a Saab back in ..., and I loved it. But it had so many problems, I finally unloaded it and got a [BMW, Volvo, VW, etc.].
Thankfully, the company got its act together in the late 90s to improve quality, and it is now starting to pay off.
