Hey everyone,

I just wanted to get some input from my fellow Saabers.

The other night I was driving home from work at about 2am and was in the far right lane of the highway about 4 car lengths behind a pickup truck. Suddenly the truck's brake lights came on, then I saw a tire (still round with partial sidewall) fly out from under the pickup. I had nowhere to go, and ended up running right over it.

Needless to say my brand new 9-3 Arc was damaged. Though it certainly could have been worse, the spoiler was hit pretty bad and the clips that connect the spoiler to the bumper were all broken. I was able to reconnect the different "layers" of spoiler and the whole thing looks ok, but it sags about 1/4 inch from the bottom of the bumper. Although no one else can really tell, I know the whole thing is damaged, and now worry about it rattling or falling off in the future. Since the damage was to the bumper as well as the spoiler, I believe this will be very expensive to fix.

So here is my question, about 20ft or so from where the tire was laying in the road was the car to which the tire belonged. It was sitting on the shoulder on its rim. While I feel for the person who's car was disabled, I can't help but feel angry that they left the tire in the road. The tire could have caused even worse damage or even killed someone. I think they should have retrieved it or done something.

The car is still on the side of the road (2 days later) so if I got the plates and called the cops would it even help? Or am I out of luck? I hate to file a claim with my own insurance, but even if I tried to contact the car's owner (assuming I could find the name with just a plate #)I doubt they'd care. I mean they obviously didn't care enough to keep their car or tires in a safe roadworthy condition so I doubt they'd pay for the damage or even call me back.

So I turn to my fellow Saabers on the board. What would you do? Has this happened to anyone before?

Thanks
ArcGP
