I get the BBC news on the dish and they had a test of the 146 GTA (I think thats the name) a hot hatch with a 3.2 liter V6. They railed at how it would be a much poorer choice then the VW VR6 awd, but then they admitted, despite being less refined, untimately it was a wonderful car and they would choose it over the VW despite knowing FULL WELL it was not teh sensible thing to do. I have to say Alfa styling right now is simply stunning. And I agree with your wife, Alfa Romeo....that name just rolls of the tongue and says style, perfomance and emotion. I hope they get their quality fixed and get back here ASAP....and for GODSAKE GM, don't try to sell them at Saturn dealers. geez. They should follow BMW's example of the Mini and only bring in high spec cars.
