Why nasty?
Brakes have breathers.... really dumb, there are better ways.
A minor amount of moisture in the MC will not cause rust.
A minor amount of condensation in mineral oil or silicone based fluids will remain in water phase and cause rust damage to the MC.
I saw ore hauling truck production change from brake fluid to mineral oil based. So it can be done. And with a 170 ton payload, stopping was important.
Now a good?bad story: In a mine in Yugoslovia in the 80's, a rear brake drum shoe was dragging. A small brake drum with a 48" internal diameter. The drum was bolted to the wheel hub and the inner duel 10 foot high tire/rim was clamped against that. So the heat from the dragging brake went from the drum into the tire rim. The rubber in the tire bead seat broke down. The vapours built up in the tire. The hot fumes and air dieseled. The 54 ply tire exploded. This blew the whole hub assembly off the rear axle. The driver, who had been through more wars than one would like to remember, opened the cab door and lept off of the cab deck, which is very high in the air. He broke both of his legs. Be was deafened (temporary) by the explosion in the sound proofed cab. So they had a hard time finding out from him what happened. He thought that he had been shelled or bombed. I did some heat transfer analysis on that. It turns out that the drum, embedded in the inner dual rim, with rotation, creates a convention free zone that makes the whole problem worse. No I don't know why the brakes were dragging.
Then there was the GM Compact car visiting a copper mine site in the Peru or Chile, ...memory is slipping. There was a lot of dust, dry there. The small car kept backing away from the ore hauler ahead because they could not see through the dust, being so close to the ground. The next ore truck, with the cab high in the air, was keeping up with the hauler ahead. So here is the sad story, 3 American Terex field engineers (then still GM folks), died as the hauler behind ran them over. He never saw the car in the dust below and did recall thinking that there was a rock in the road that someone should attend too.
