That's a tough call. Prices sounds way up the wall but than again if they use a brand new turbo charger and a factory rebuilt engine I guess it would get up to those prices.
Since you "only" have to pay one third it is still an ok price for you to get "new stuff".
The other option would be to use an independant Saab shop having them install a good used engine.
Problem there is that you have to pay the whole amount yourself.
A used engine could probably be found around $1500.00 and another $1000.00 to have it installed. On top of that is the turbo charger which probably would run another $500.00.
So you see, by going that way it will bring it up to almost what you get new stuff from the dealer.
Most shops don't give you 12 month 12K miles on used engine either.
My question is, why did the failed headgasket result in a damaged engine and turbo?
Did you maybe drive the car without coolant until the engine seized from beeing badly overheated? If so, part of the blame is on you to not stop in time.
