Driving a Ford Expedition today...thoughts

Do family vehicles really have to be so big and lumbering?
I got the Ford Expedition with a V8 as a loner today. The thing is huge.
I am totally annoyed by the vehicle already. I hate having to climb onto the steps to get into the driver's seat. Attaching the tether of the car seat in the cargo area requires me to crawl into and out of the darn thing like a kid in a jungle gym. Then there's the driving experience.
It floats. It rolls. It takes quite a bit of pedal pushing to make it pass.
And the seats are really bad.
Fuel consumption is horrible. I went through 1/8 of the tank during my morning commute. Ridiculous.
I definitely know that if I ever need a larger car, this will not be on the shopping list. Having driven 9-5 wagons in the past, I completely understand why owners love them so much. Fun to drive and capacity to haul lots of stuff--all in one package.
It's definitely hip hip hooray for the hatchback and wagon.
