I'd probably look real carefully for alignment issues where the front bumper or grille meet the adjacent parts.

If you're a DIY type, take off the bumper & look for bent parts. I was bumped in my former '86 Jetta. On that car, the rear bumper mounting had elongated holes for the bolts. Loosen the bolts, slide the bumper out where it belonged, tighten...

If you can pay the other guy's repairs yourself without making an insurance claim...?? But that's a whole other trust issue between you both.
