9-3 Ragtop Test Drive & 9-5 Aero Discounts Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] (#22) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Randy Thatcher) on Fri, 24 Oct 2003 22:51:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So I was going in to the dealer to get a test drive and a signature on a form so that SAAB USA would give me an online REI gift certificate. I called ahead and went to test drive the new ragtop. Found the dealer near my house and saw they are also a Subaru dealership. The first thing on display as I walked through the door was a WRX STI with the hood open. What a killer engine bay! HUGE intercooler up top, powder coated intake manifold, and on and on. It sucks down gas though, and they're getting a $5k premium on it over sticker.
So I drove the 9-3 ragtop with the autobox. They did one hell of a job on the chassis. It's stiff with NO cowl shake or twisting body. You wouldn't know you're in a covertible. It's a world of difference from my 94 C900TC CE. The 210 HP engine is nice, with the turbo making a nice whine. I still think the 210 doesn't feel as gutsy as the 185 as my old 2000 9-3, but who knows. It just feels different. All in all, a fantastic car.
I then asked about pricing on 9-5's (even though I'm not in the market). I I said I'm a GM supplier, he mentioned the loyalty discount, and then I mentioned the SAAB Club. After a very quick chat with his sales manager, he offered me a 2003 9-5 Aero (Merlot, Auto) at nearly $10k off sticker. Amazing.
They had a 2002 CLOTH 9-5 2.3t in the showroom, too. I have heard of them, but never seen one. I wonder what price they'd do on that one. Probably CHEAP.
The seemed to be a VERY helpful dealership, with a friendly sales staff that doesn't mess around like some at other marquees. I love the fact that the new car buying experience can be a pleasure at SAAB, not a nervous and painful torture session like at most others.
In case you're wondering, the dealer I visited was Downtown SAAB in Oakland, CA.
