1st "normal" day.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Wed, 29 Oct 2003 11:13:40 In Reply to: So Cal fire status..., Tyler, Wed, 29 Oct 2003 10:34:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Last night the cool ocean air moved in over the city of San Diego and it was it's normal misty, semi-foggy self. This morning the sun was out and the air was relatively clean. The clouds seem just a little more gray or brown today than the normal marine layer we experience, but who knows, the sun is out and it's not smokey anymore. The Santa Ana winds off the desert that propelled the fire from east to west have given way to our more usual onshore flow, west to east.
The bad news is that now the fire is going east from Ramona to our jewell of a mountain town called Julian. From Julian all the way north along the mountains to Palomar Mountain where the big 200 inch telescope is has been evacuated. The fire departments are familiar with defending Julian as it's always in the path of fire. Just a couple of years ago the fire came from the other direction.
Same thing north in the San Bernardino mountains in the Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead areas about 90 miles north of San Diego.
We're not out of the woods yet.
