I put together computers for myself and friends as a hobby; I would *not*, repeat, *not* 'upgrade'. I'd get the OEM version and reinstall Win2K cold. Sure, that means re-installing a dozen apps, but hey, that's life.
Minimum usable requirements for a Win2K box for light use would be 600 mhz, 256mb memory. My system at work is 633 mhz Dell and works ok. My home system is a 2.4Ghz and flies. Win2k is stable, has all the multimedia support I need (video editing, for example) and none of the annoyances that XP has.
I've spent enough time with Microsoft products to know that one should migrate to them once at least 2-3 service packs are out :-). It's about time for Win2k :-)
