why AWD, first off? FWD will get you through just as much.
(after woning several AWD cars, beyond the cache of "having AWD", they didn't do much for me - even in deep snow, etc. Braking in these conditions is much more important, and AWD doesn't help that!
Anyway, IMO the 2.5 is a lackluster performer. The 3.0 is a better bet. BUT - have you seen prices of a 3.0? It'll stop your heart. Its also a VERY small car; even though the outside is compact, the lack of space inside is astonishing.
And if free maintenance is going to sway you... Saab offers it on every new one sold. The 9-3, regardless of trim, is a much more exhilerating (and in the case if an Arc) just as luxurious as the Baby Jag. I live in a huge area for Lux cars; I never see the X's - lots of S's and the new XJ, no X's.
