Hi,
My boyfriend just went through this with a Volvo. He is a dual citizen, lives in Canada, and they wouldn't let him keep driving his parents' car with US plates back and forth so he had to import the car. The procedure wasn't a big hassle, but he did have to make certain modifications based on the year of the car, because Canada has extra rules that cars made after a certain year must have certain features. I think it was just a couple of things, the most major of which involved day-time running lights. He was able to get it done in Canada though, you know, you have a certain amount of time to get it done after the car arrives in Canada I think.
I think it depends on the year of the car though so you might not have to do anything, but it would be worth looking into.
