There is no such thing as safe surgery, even if they try to sell you a laparascopic procedure (vs. open cut) as being "safe"; if the MD puts the band around the wrong structure it can result in death or serious injury. Add to that the fact that obese people are more at risk of complications due to anesthesia (heart problems) and you have a recipe for disaster. Its actually not "stapling" anymore, they put bands (like zip-ties) around certain structures in the abdomen, which can then be removed in a second surgical procedure.
Short version, the surgeon who did my wife's hernia repair has THREE pending lawsuits for improper stomach procedures resulting in death. Check for lawsuits against the MD in your county and with your State MD Regulation dept. Don't do it, MO.
P.s., I used to prosecute MD's for gross negligence here in Illinois, that's how I know this info.
