Hey Keith
My mom is a veterinarian and I asked her about this and she said that there is an over the counter preparation you can get at any pet supply store. She said this might at least keep them in check until your next vet visit and may take care of the problem. She said the key is to reapply, reapply, reapply for at least a couple of weeks. It is an oily ointment that kills the adults so they can't lay any more eggs, but you have to keep reapplying because the eggs that are already there will still hatch. Also, make sure you get it way down into his ears. YOu can also put some steroidal anti-inflammatory cream on his ears to help with the itching. Any pharmacist would be able to help you find this. It is okay to use a human one on his ears because she can't lick there, just don't put it on thick enough that he can get it on his paws and lick it off.
I am so happy to finally contribute something to Saabnet I just don't know what to do with myself!!!
Good luck. It is no fun to be worrying about your kitty, I know. I hope he gets better soon.
Annie
