Today's Lesson: NO Active Head Restraint on Mazda 6 Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] (#22) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Randy Thatcher) on Mon, 1 Dec 2003 22:35:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So I'm on a business trip in Cleveland (my old home) and I'm on the way between my main office and a smaller facility a few exits down the highway. I was stopped on an overpass waiting to make a left turn onto the freeway...
Some idiot (also stopped) was in la-la land when she took off and rear ended me, causing my 2004 Mazda 6 with less than 2000 miles to hit a new PT Cruiser Turbo. After some confusion, we pulled into a nearby lot. We exchanged some info and called the cops.
The officer gave us the option of letting our insurance companies sort it out, or fill out the reports and give the lady a citation. Because my head was hurting, and I was in a rental car insured by my company, I opted for the official route. I called a Project Manager I'm working with to inform him I wouldn't be showing up later that day. At the point I said let's do a proper accident report, the apologetic person at fault clammed up and didn't want to make a statement. I hope she got the shakedown NYPD Blue style. ;)
I went to the E.R. to get my neck checked out, and ended up waiting a whopping 6 hours in the lobby, then took 1 1/2 hours more to get a few xrays and a reflex test. Was I in a Canadian E.R.? I did get to read a nice chunk of my Ludlum book there...
So, had anyone been rear-ended in a newer SAAB with the Active Head Restraint feature? I don't know if my neck hurts from being thrown foward, or the motion coming back and hitting the headrest that is WAY too far back... I wonder if I'd feel better had I been in my old 9-3.
Tomorrow's fun #1: waking up in pain.
Tomorrow's fun #2: Figuring out the paperwork and BS with my company. Since I was on the clock (and in a rental car) my company will pick up all costs, and go after the idiot's insurance company.
Question for you lawyers... When or why would you recommend contacting an injury lawyer? I used one a few years ago when an old lady pulled a hit and run when she crashed into my bicyle. I had a dislocated shoulder that time. It still acts up from time to time.
