Porsche is independent, although they often share engineering with Volkswagen (hence the Cayenne/Toureg). Lotus is owned by Proton, a Malaysian company, which is partly owned by Mitsubishi, which is in turn partly owned by DaimlerChrysler. Not that there is any relationship at all between DaimlerChrysler and Lotus; the chain is too long there.
A good place to start for this information is autozine.kyul.net, one of my favorite car sites. Some of the manufacturer stuff is out of date, though, so it's always good to check the info on the corporate sites of the companies involved.
