1) no one has ever laughed at me when I use gee-SLAV-ed, because no one else knows how to pronounce it either.
2) I use 35 lbs in my winter 195-65R15 Nokians, same as my summer 205-55R16. Seems to work OK. Probably could use a bit more in the winter tires since they are taller; it would make the handling a bit more positive but rougher on bumpy winter roads.
Within reason tire pressure is a personal preference kind of thing, as long as you don't exceed the max pressure on the tire or run them low enough that the tires are damaged. I play with pressures front/rear until I get the ride/handling balance I want.
There's a reason you increase the pressure to 40lbs+ before taking on an autocross course.
All other things being equal, higher pressure = faster handling & more bumpy ride. Lower rear pressure=oversteer. Lower front pressure=understeer.
