I didn't get a membership card either. I have been a member since I bought my Saab - near two years now. I believe they stated that they were working on it.
Speaking of which, I believe the length was for 2 years, which means I might get something soon regarding renewal. I will let everyone know.
With my membership came the 2 'club' decals with a couple of SaabNet decals. I found SaabNet much quicker as a result!! Nines came as well, and has been delivered since.
Was it worth it? Well, from what I see, the biggest thing the club does is put on the National event. I was not able to make Ohio last year, and this year's in Hershey, it was my birthday, and we went to Mt. Tremblant instead. Obviously, the event is no small potatoes, so hopefully I can get things together and attend next year.
The next is the subscription to NINES. Most of the technical information is for the early years - Sonnets and Classic 900s, but I still enjoy the articles, and there is some stuff on the latest happenings and current state of Saab.
Lastly is the decals. Although, I 'wear' the SaabNet stickers (passenger side) on my NG900 a little prouder, the SCNA sticker is in the more prominent position - driver's side.
I have spent more money in worse places, but look at it like this - Perhaps I helped to contribute to more of the 'building' of the club from the foundation up. I was surprised to read (my numbers may be wrong, but you get the idea of the proportions) that the SCNA membership is somewhere in the mid-hundreds. Small fries compared to BMW, etc. where membership is in the mid-tens of thousands. That could explain the 'lack of benefits.' Also, those that 'run' the club do not do it full-time. However, since I joined, I have seen some progress, so I am happy.
Ultimately, I am just proud to drive my Saab. It's even better to see a fellow member (SCNA or SaabNet) in passing, although rare, and just nice to get a wave here or there from other owners.
I ramble, so those are just my thoughts/views/observations from a 'paid-member.' I have wanted to express this for a while, especially when I saw similar 'negative views' after Hershey. This gave me the opportunity. Thanks for reading. Keep Saabing!
