Just because a Saab performed poorly in one of C/D's arbitrary tests means little, and shouldn't be cause for concern. Remember, these are only tests and they are designed to help readers get a handle on comparing the performance in of a car in their respective fields. As someone else has already pointed out, the Saab performed poorly because of the way the test is designed (acclerating in an absurdly high gear), and if memory serves me correctly, the BMW M3 is almost as slow as the Saab in this test. You could go on and on about how the test is biased (auto tranny versus a manual, and large displacement versus small etc.) but we should be smart enough to realize that our beloved Saabs are not the be all, end all when it comes to the editors at Car and Driver. That should provide some comfort.
