I've had my '95 900s coupe since it was a year old in 1996, and my wife and I have owned our '01 9-5 sedan since it was new. Our two black Saabs have been a joy to own, and with the 900 getting on in years and mileage, we decided that 2 breakdowns in 3 months is too much (clutch cable and idler pulley), so we started looking for a new car.

I'm a car guy and a Saab guy for sure, and have talked about Saabs with anybody who would listen. My wife wanted our next car to be AWD since her parents are retiring to the mountains, and we both wanted a really safe car. We're familiar with the attributes of the 9-5 since we own one, but I couldn't see having 2 9-5s at our house, especially since it doesn't meet the wife's AWD requirement, and isn't available with a 3rd seat in the wagon. Sadly, the 9-3ss doesn't come with a hatchback bodystyle yet, which has been my favorite feature of the 900 over the years.

The car we chose to replace my 900 is a Volvo V70R wagon. 300 HP, 6-sp manual, AWD. I wish Saab made a version of th 9-5 Aero which truly competes with the V70R, but I don't feel like they do. I feel like I've betrayed my Saab background by choosing the V70R, but I'm so excited to get the car. I think it's going to be great fun to drive.

I know there's still a 9-3 convertible in my future, somewhere about 10 years down the road. Should be able to get a screamin' deal on a used 9-3 cabrio by that point! For now, though, we're going to be a split houshold, with dueling Swedish turbo marques in the driveway!
