a few thoughts:
whatever you buy, make sure it has UV ray protection--which I'm sure is available on at least some of the cheap pairs...and on most of the spendy ones.
Some people swear by the Oakleys and the like (or even the older style with the leather patches on the sides) for the full coverage of all UV rays and light to the sides of the eyes.
Some of the cheapos scratch easily, but if you paid $5 for em, you might not mind replacing them every few months.
And lastly, do you lose/scratch your shades easily? if yes, might be a good reason to go cheap...if no, might as well buy some better functioning, looking, more comfortable, longer lasting ones depending on your budget.
Me? For now I'm using $25 clip-on attachments for my regular prescription glasses, that are "scratch resistant" and have UV ray protection that I bought at Sunglass Hut.
