Sheesh. This is pretty much the coldest weather that I can think of since I moved here from grad school in Ann Arbor in late 1999. My 02' 9-5 read minus 6F on the sorta funky retro computer this morning and the radio XRT reported the wind chill at -27F... which made the fact that I had to stop and get gas all the more painful--My ears are actually still hurting! As for the furnace, my place in Ravenswood Manor (North side at around Lincoln and Wilson) just got a new Rheem so it was pretty warm... but my gas bill is pretty high even though the old palce (1922) has good insulation. [Wicker Park homes are older, right? More like 1890s or 1900 I'm thinking so this may help explain their drafts?]
Anyway, this weather is still preferable to the suicide inducing greys and heavy snows of Ann Arbor in the winter. Or maybe I'm jsut so happy to be out of grad school!
