I use vacuum tube gear and love LP's. I'm certainly in the minority. My horn speakers are worth more than my SPG... My system is not the norm.

For a good read, look at the thread on this BB from a few days back on stereo gear. A lot of folks chimed in, and some great suggestions were made. I think the premise was building a good 2 channel system for $1000-1500.

As for bose. Find some bose you think you like. Say they cost $1000. Now, go to a mid-fi or hi-end shop and look at other options in the same price range. Chances are, you'll like what you hear.

Think brands like Paradigm, B&W, Totem, Legacy, Tannoy dual concentrics, Meadowlark, Def Tech. You can get very esoteric with brands like Avant-Garde, Lowther, Koechel, etc.
