Driver arrested fleeing traffic stop

Seattle police officers arrested a 25-year-old woman yesterday after she allegedly tried to run one traffic officer down, fled along Interstate 5 and was caught only after she became trapped in traffic and officers dragged her from the car.
It began as a traffic stop just before 2:30 p.m. at Northeast Northgate Way and First Avenue Northeast, police spokeswoman Deanna Nollette said. A motorcycle officer tried to pull the woman over, but she ignored his siren and lights.
At one point, the woman stopped in traffic and the motorcycle officer walked up and ordered her out of the car. "She told him no," Nollette said.
Standing in front of the woman's white, four-door Saab, the officer ordered her out. Nollette said the woman responded by accelerating toward the officer, who dived out of the way.
She headed onto I-5 southbound, with officers in pursuit. With traffic heavy, one officer ran up to the car, smashed in the front passenger window and tried to reach in for the keys.
The woman accelerated, stopped short, threw the officer off and continued on, Nollette said.
Just short of the Denny Way exit, traffic again blocked the woman's way, and several officers were able to converge on the Saab, smashing in more windows.
Officers cut the woman's seatbelt off and several pulled her out of the car. After handcuffing her, the officers carried the woman to a nearby patrol car.
Nollette said the woman was arrested for investigation of assault and eluding police.
