Not only was it common to to flash the lights at other Saabs in 1982 when I got my first Saab (1980 black 3dr turbo with inca wheels and steel sunroof), but a wave was common too. I also had a motorcycle at the time and waves were popular to other bikers as well. In fact, on many of my cross Canada drives, especially in the mountains of BC and in Northern Ontario, even truckers would wave at my trusty black Saab. But no more. For one thing, in Canada it's been over 14 years since you could flash the lights on a Saab as the lights are all in all positions of the switch (unless you pulled the right fuse or pre 9-3SS). Also the yuppie buyers think it is cool to ignore other drivers of your marque. But I still find Saab drivers the most friendly of any, and so a little of that early brotherhood feeling still exists. Or should I say sisterhood too as my wife has had 2 Saabs in our 12 years together as well.
