I think this article is a little misleading. I dont know the exact weights of the vehicles, but let's say that mini weighs 1/4 of F250. F=1/2(mass)*(v)^2. I think the reason F250 buckled so much is that it had 4 times more energy to dissipate going from 40mph to 0mph than the mini (assume 4 times the weight). This is true in the case of crash into the concrete barrier, where the barrier will not move, therefore does not have to dissipate much energy. So the car/truck HAS to dissipate most of the energy. That is why the F250 seems like it has been mangled up. True, in this test, if a person is running straight into the wall at 40mph, he would be better off in a mini. But I would bet my money on the F250 on a head on collision between mini and F250. Driver of F250 may sustain a broken leg, but the driver of mini would be decapitated... I don't like them big trucks and SUV's.
