IIRC from past posts on these BB's, Saab added "oil spray to under side of piston crown" to all 4-cylinder engines effective with the 2000 model year. In 1999 this feature was on Aero engines only.
Depending how your 4th cylinder failed (i.e. piston melt down as opposed to connecting rod bearing failure) you may be able to successfully argue that it was a design defect, subsequently corrected for future models, and should be covered by the factory.
I know there is no need to add this, but please correct me if I am wrong. I try not to spread false info and false hopes.
