I spent the entire weekend driving my friend's 325i. Although I own a 2002 9-3 and love my car, this car is really a delight.

The overall refinement is unbelievable compared to my 9-3. The combination of ride comfort, road feel, and handling is absolutely superb. Just based on those factors, I would consider this car over mine (though I can't say the same for the new 9-3 because I haven't spent sufficient time behind the wheel).

I can understand the knock on this car's engine performance compared to Saab's powerplant offerings. But, the 6-cylinder--even the 2.5--is so much smoother than the Saab's. It has good power for L.A. traffic conditions. I even had the opportunity to get up to 80 mph and didn't feel a lack of passing power when needed.

The interior is a bit small. I also prefer the 9-3's seats. The 9-3 is a bit more raw in terms of power which I translate into more fun. But I sure wish the ride of my car were half as good as the 325i.

If you look at overall value, the 325i is a pretty good deal if you don't get it loaded. I say this because I'm so enamored with the earlier mentioned intangibles. The base is about $28k. And BMW is currently running a special lease program on the car. But you got to do the math compared to any Saab because those incentives can make the car ever more attractive.
