Sorry to hear that your mom is having such bad luck. You should be able to replace only the key fob instead of the entire system. The alarm transmitter (key fob) for my 1990 Saab 900 Turbo went bad last year, and I just purchased a new transmitter and chip from the dealer for about $80. I haven't had any experience with newer 900's, but I wouldn't imagine it being much different. Depending on where the short is in your key fob, you may be able to buy just the chip and change it out with the one in your current transmitter, and that costs somehwere around $30. You may want to check with an independent Saab mechanic in your area first. I hope I have been of some help. Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
