I was cruising home from work this Thursday and I needed to pass someone, so I mashed the pedal and got up to probably 85 or 90. About a 1/4 mile back I saw a black Crown Vic pull out into my lane and then he started gaining. I backed off the gas and brought her down to 70. My intuition was right, and it was a CA Chippie without light bars. He pulled onto my right side gave me the evil eye, then took off. I though I got of LUCKY. I was convinced I could get away with any speeding in CA.
Fast forward to friday night. Top down, coming home from work at 5:45. I noticed 3 choppers hovering over my condo complex, and traffic was backed up. I got off my exit (slowly) and noticed 5 news van at the bottom of the ramp. Cruised home and flipped on the TV. Turns out that this week 4 or 5 cars have been shot on 580 (highway near my place) and Friday's shooting happened very near my condo.
Bottom line, the cop gave me the evil eye because he didn't care about speeders, they're out looking for shooters. So far no one has been killed, but there is a heavy feeling in the air here. I hope they get the shooter soon. It's scary knowing that the last one went down so close to home.
