I have received similar warnings, which I confirmed as legit from the sending companies IT departments. As it turns out, my machine, a notebook, was not able to send them as it was in my car at the designated times when they were sent.

I assumed that it was someone with my address in their address book and sent an email to all my friends and the customers/vendors who I figured might be at less 'technically advanced' companies stating someone had a virus and their computer was sending emails using their address book as fodder for to/from addresses.

Two reponded with thanks, one personal, one business account. Both had a virus which had comandeered their account. They resolved the issues and no more problems since.

I would recommend Norton 2004 and subscribe to the live update feature, also scan with Adaware at least weekly. It is not a perfect solution but gives you a measure of security.

I have attached a link to an article about the new 'virus wars' in case some have not seen it. It's actually scary and funny at the same time....
