Inasmuch as they say it's too wide of a viscosity range (5W-50), and not a "real" synthetic, I haven't really heard of any problems with the Syntec 5W-50. The people who use it on BITOG seem to like it, and it seems to keep engines clean. I tried it a long time ago in my car and motorcycle, was okay. But the Yamaha motorcycle didn't shift as well on Syntec 5W-50 compared to Mobil 1 15W-50 (gearbox oil shared with engine oil on that bike). The Yamaha jumped out of gear a bit on the Syntec 5W-50.
For our SAABs, I think the German Syntec 0W-30 is better, and will provide all the protection you need, year 'round. It's ACEA A3 and Longlife approved by the various European marques, so it will be thick enough, even during the summer.
If you need a thicker oil for a really heavy right foot, I recommend Delvac 1 5W-40, which is available at Canadian Walmarts. It's a heavy duty oil for very severe service, said to be the best oil made by Mobil. I will be trying it this summer in my 9-5 Aero.
