Getting a check-engine light? Check the error code. I don't know the method for that year, I don't have one. Either jumper a wiring plug together & watch the check-engine light flash, or peel back the carpet & watch a LED flashing on the ECU.

Main relay & ignitor would be prime suspects. The ignitor is what we'd call the ignition amplifier... Take off the distributor cap & look for rusty dust in there. Also look for loose wires. The ignitor & coil are both inside the distributor in my Hondas.
