I used to be in advertising and still work in aspects of marketing and think it is all waaay over the top. It's not just the content but also *when* the ads run.
My 2 daughters ( ages 10 and 15) and I like watching Star Trek, which airs locally only on Spike TV, at 7 and 8 pm weeknights. But it is actually a bit hard to watch due to the ads for Striperella, "male enhancement" drugs and last night, condoms. I jut hit the "mute", but the visuals are still there. The kids don't get the drug ads, and think the Striperella ads are gross, but why--on a show that kids certainly watch during what was once considered as "a family TV time slot"--do these ads have to run?
I'm fairly certain the ads are not specifically placed on Star Trek--they are most likely just ROS (Run of Schedule) which means fairly random placement. But it still pisses me off. Am going to contact Spike about it. They won't do anything, but I am interested in seeing their response.
