Off the top of my head I would suggest installing a heat shield with very low emissivity (ie shiny, not matte finish - aluminum foild probably sounds stupid but would probably help - think about your hand in front of your face at a campfire). There's no way you can block the wire with a shield? Moving things farther away would also help (thermal radiation drops off from a point source as r^-2, thus doubling the distance away from a point source would 1/4 thermal transfer (radiation is spread out over surface of sphere of radius r).
Could you reduce the cross section of the wire so there's less absorbing area?
