In North America there is a trend for the bigger. Elsewhere this is the opposite, the smaller IS the better (to a certain point). On the highway there is no difference between NA and Europe but as soon you enter a city then the difference is obvious. I'm talking about street size and vehicule density. When you think about the greenhouse effect and the ever rasing price at the pump, only a few want or can afford to buy those vehicules. Why do we want 300 and 400 hp engines? Yes, I am sure it must be fun sometime. And what about AWD? This is a nice extra and I mean extra. I drove a 4x4 for 3 years and it was fun in the winter( and costly in gas). Since I drive my SAAB, only a few times I wished to have a 4x4 but I was never stranded (you have to use some judgement too, not always there when driving my 4x4). I am living in Montreal, Canada with a lot of snow and ice.
It is too bad that GM is taking SAAB in a direction where the market is small with many competitor already there. What's wrong with the 9-3 and 9-5? The new 9-2 is coming, it is a small car and it should sell well. The only (and great disappointment) is the ignition key not being between the two seats (breaking I think the last SAAB exclusivity).
