Hi Alex

I read your post about black smoke and check engine light...
I think I currently have a similar or related problem with my car.
it's a Saab 900 1988 and I'm still a beginner in mechanics so I'm kind of powerless facing the situation!;-)

Actually, just since today when I stop accelerating and put the gear on neutral position the engine often stop... as simple as that, it stops!
No problem to start again but it just does it again. Furthermore, the idle is really bad and can't be regular. I even sometimes have the feeling engine runs partially (as if spak plugs were not all functionnal while I just changed them with those which best fit my car)

Each time the engine stops (and also before it does) the oil light turns on. I finally figured out a bad smell as well as a black smoke from the exhaust.

Is it the oil that has to be changed?
The filter?
A sensor that does not work properly or simply the idle not set as it should be?

BTW I also just changed the air filter.

Is there anybody who could help me, bring an answer or simply some clues about the problem. Things that I should check...
