part of the explanation may lie in a FWD vs RWD layout -- the nice lexi are all RWD (ES=Camry) but then there's Acura, also FWD cars -- but the Acura RL is stale compared with the LS or even GS, no V8 available, and doesn't crash as well

Certainly, Lexus has grabbed a ton of former MB drivers; why WOULD anyone pay so much for a Benz when a comparable Lexus costs less and is better built? OK, if you want one of those screaming AMG models, perhaps...

Which makes me wonder how long it will take Honda & Toyota to start offering sport-tuned, rare versions of their sedans the way MB, BMW & Audi do. No, the Honda Civic Si does not count - think STI and Evo.

In the article, some one asks if Lexi are more common, do people not want them? Well, that sure hasn't happened to BMW where I live; common as dirt, but people keep buying them. Credit where it's due: Lexi are extremely well-made, luxurious cars. It doesn't matter if they sell 2 or 10 million, I think people with the cash will want them.
