I built a 30x40 garage with two doors. My opinion is that this is the perfect size for someone to store 3-4 cars and have room for storage and/or workshop activities.

One door has a garage door opener, the other is manually operated. I only put two doors on for fewer potential water, insect, or rodent entry points, better security, better insulated, needs a smaller driveway, and lower costs. This garage holds 4 cars with room to spare.

In the linked photos, there is lots of spare room. Today, there is not so much spare room. My table saw, a little workbench, shop vac, lawn mower, garbage can, and some furniture I am storing for my brother take up the middle space. The two cars that use the manually operated garage door tend to be using that side of the garage for longer term storage. (like for the winter or while I'm waiting for some parts or spare time or something).

Also since I took these pics, I have insulated and covered the walls with white painted waferboard material, then hung a few posters for decoration.

My garage doors are not that big. A full size truck can not fit through. My Saabs have about 8" on each side when entering or exiting. I'm not a truck enthusiast, so having monster doors is not a concern.

You also want to install lots of electric outlets and lights! Preferably you wouldn't finish it off till you've had it for a little while to figure out how you want do the inside to suit how the garage is used.
