I've worked on the Prius. The pack has two big contactors(relays) for the positive and negative side of the pack. If there is no power to them, not a live pack. There is about 3-4 amp-hrs in the pack with a nominal voltage of 280, thats 1120 W-hrs. Also the pack is floated(not grounded to chassis) so you need to cut both wires to make a bang! I bet a gallon of fuel has more energy that that. If all goes wrong there is a 125amp fast blow inline fuse on the pack(internally). The wires are together in a bundle and are under the car.
