Well, I only became Saab-aware last summer when I bought an 00 9-3, and now I see that where I live (Ithaca, NY) is crawling with them, in all shapes and sizes. Shucks, the other day I noticed in someone's yard just a couple miles down the road not only a scattering of 99s and C900s but also a pair of the older ones (93? 96? Need to take a closer look).

So generally me and my postdiluvian Saab can't pull much more than a raised eyebrow or half nod. And people sometimes look a bit askance as I crane about checking on Saabs, especially when I do so on foot. But two nice exceptions come to mind:

One day I'm pulling out from my (annual) run to the dry cleaners, and pulling in so that we pass by each other in close parallel is this lady in an NG900/9-3 'vert. Big, broad grins on both sides. Enhanced, perhaps, by the symmetry of the one Saab being black and the other white, with our respective complexions the reverse.

The other is sort of a half-duplex Saab wave. I'm bombing down this back road I love for speed runs in my BGT. Hurlting towards me, low to the ground and very red, is this supersharp C900 of some sort. He flashes his lights. I ack him but without being able to express my appreciation for his brand of coolness.
