I learned about the certified dealer versus grey market thing rather quickly. When it comes to luxury watches, manufactures control pricing to ensure market position (price control). Typically, any site offering "deals" would buy them outside of the US and then sell unmatched discount. Often, they would “extend” the manufacturer’s warranty period by a year or two. You say, Great, right?
The downside to the consumer is the truth about the warranty and servicing. These warranties are handled directly by the seller, not the manufacturer. So you are at the mercy of who they hire to service your watch. Watches are very intricate, so a quality watched is best serviced by the manufacturer, IMO.
I finally stumbled upon Topper Jewelers. You can browse online, but you must call for pricing/ordering. This allows them to give you non-published discounting without upsetting the manufacturers or voiding the warranties.
I’ve bought two Omegas from Rob (great guy, knows his stuff too) and pricing was equal to grey market, shipping free. In fact, one of my watches is in for servicing. I mailed it to them with my US valid warranty card (you don’t get this with grey market!), they mailed it to Omega, done! I couldn’t be happier.
