#1 - the 2.0 saab engine, turbo or not, is famous for racking up obscene miles on dino oil. This is not debated by anyone. Except for hard working turbo bearings, have seen scant real-world evidence is matters unless you're going for a mileage record, perhaps.

#2 - therefore, imo, going synthetic is for benefits other than longevity. I chose it after 170k mi because a) got it cheap from dad b) could go twice as long between intervals (or longer if wanted to) turns out to be v nice benefit c) starts easier in winter, especially if spent night outside d) my old car seems to start smoother on a synth heavy wt oil than a heavy dino.

#3 - i don't make it rocket-science: when I could detect scant oil consumption on 10W30 synth in not Durham NC hard driving guy w/ 200k+ car, went to 10W40. Now idles quieter, no oil loss at all on 7500mi changes. Will try 15W50 next change during summer just for kicks, keep 10W40 winter.
